What on earth is with you gals and your need to write depressing literature? I was going through a stack of old college papers and came across a bunch of writing samples from a creative writing class.
In every writing class I ever took in college, without fail 95% of stories written by girls were about suicide, breaking up, self image issues (anorexia, plastic surgery), or any combination (suicide over breaking up or self image issues, breaking up over self image issues). Every creative writing veteran and TA who ever taught a writing course that I talked to all agree with this figure.
Also a female anomaly was pent up rage and frustration towards men poking through in every story. Half the stories were about breaking up, and all of those featured a CHEATING BASTARD MAAN who was totally at fault and all men are lying scum blah blah blah. Either that or the tired alocholic and abusive father/husband was wheeled out. Every story where a man hit a woman was a tragic drama, every one where a woman hit a man (inflicting concussions) was a comedy. I think the total fictional body count for ASSHOLE men by female student authors in one class was around 9 dead abusive drunks, 2 groin kicks, scalding coffee dumped onto a guy's crotch, and one testicle ripped out by a dog.
In one class I was thinking about asking this one girl out, but started getting creeped out after each one of her submitted stories became more and more about how totally hot and beautiful her brother was. Story #1 was some poem going on about how his eye were an impossible blueish grey. Story#2 was about a female character who got jealous every time another girl talked to her brother, and how she totally agreed with her mother about how her brother was the handsomest boy in school. But then the brother was a CHEATING ASSHOLE whose girlfriend caught him fooling around with some SKANK TRAMP and had her dog attack him and rip out a testicle. The rest of the story was about how she was perfectly justified in stalking him for years afterwards and cockblocking him every time he tried to talk to another girl and convincing them all to dump hot coffee on his crotch. For some reason that girl didn't seem as cute anymore.
So what is the bitter gene that forces every college aged female to turn every work of fiction into a Lifetime special? I asked one about it and she said her story was "a metaphor about how men are like drugs. They're not good for you but it's hard to break away." "They should be outlawed!" said me jokingly. *Narrowing her eyes and starin off at nothing* "Yeah they should" |
