the kids here probably aren't going to be interested in the slightest, but I actually found out a few days ago that one of my all time favorite half life 1 mods was ported to the source engine
http://www.moddb.com/mods/heart-of-evil-source
for those who are interested, it's basically a vietnam era apocalypse now/heart of darkness homage with a ton of weapons from the era (except for the snarks), a large volume of friendly special forces, tons of cool scripted sequences and events, and some really great humor as well
there are of course a few problems, like the whole "survival horror" aspect, which forces you to hunt for trivial and hard to find items all over a large series of hub maps so that you WILL get lost eventually.
but if you can ignore the various faults or if you have played the original version of the mod, the source port has a bunch of really sweet new features that really surprised me, like the updated chumtoad that is now a motor powered watercraft, the VASTLY improved friendly AI, as well as the ragdoll physics on everything from the tiny pseudo-headcrabs to the soldiers, even to the fawkin HELICOPTERS that crash and scatter to pieces realistically.
I dunno if I would blame anyone for not wanting to bother with this now, considering how very badly it has aged (in particular, the really awful character models/faces as well as the annoying ass "find the purple gem of virility" quests) but I just figured it's worth at least one post on opchan |
