...if it happened BEFORE he took the shot instead of after it, and/or the amount of time he spent "aiming" had some relation to the difficulty of the shot. In Fallout Tictacs (and every other pseudo-real-time squad-level wargame I've ever played) it's more like the little guy's just waiting for some arbitrary timer to expire or a little bar to refill. The worst offenders are probably games like the Infinity Engine RPGs, which tacitly acknowledge the ridiculousness of everyone making exactly one attack every six seconds by rendering "cosmetic" attacks with zero mechanical backing in between the real ones. I guess that's okay if you're just looking to experience the flavour of a battle raging on your computer screen, but it's fucking inexcusable for anyone more interested in actually playing games than sitting around waiting for them to finish.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to abstraction; I just think it should be used in service of the gameplay (as in a traditional turn-based system) instead of in lieu of it.
