than other units involved in a battle? I remember that being a massive pain, as you had to expose your units to powerful enemies without backup if you wanted any control over who was going to improve.
To a ludicrous degree. Like, a killing blow is worth something like eight times the experience of a fight, and it already takes around six kills to get to level 2. It's a fucking silly dance of trying to shuffle units around so the weaker ones get the killing blows (all so they can get swarmed and killed next battle). It also ensures your support units with the low damage, status ailment attacks will never ever level up.
Units get exponentially more powerful each level and take exponentially more experience to reach the next level. Only the latter should have been the case. Treat this shit like X-com squaddies.
The final flip came in the battle where they throw shitloads of skeletons at you who are super resistant to physical attacks but vulnerable to magic, and up until that point mages had been completely worthless so you never bothered to buy any and level them up. |
