This is a fun thread where we can take our guesses as to who the Craigslist Ripper, a/k/a Long Island Butcher is. You can guess anyone you like: Tiki Barber, Billy Smith, even Lisa Gay Hamilton.

Who is the Craigslist Ripper? Let's go to longislandserialkiller.com and check one of their FAQs:

Is there a serial killer on Long Island?

We have been following this story since December and are just as curious as you to find out who the killer is, and if these murders are the product of a serial killer. We hope that the killer is found soon so that Long Island residents can sleep easy.

Here is a timeline of the “serial killer” story:

It was on June 6, 2010 a young, single mother from Scarsborough, Maine was the next victim missing. The 22-year old Megan loved her three year old daughter, often showering her with attention and gifts.

Miss Waterman selected the wrong business to provide for her child. Having warnings from family Megan continued taking risks advertising herself on Craigslist. DNA testing identified Megan Waterman first among the human remains deposited on the Gilgo Beach area.

On September 2, 2010 a former, diner waitress and devout Christian was last seen in West Babylon, New York. The 27-year old divorcee Amber Lynn Costello found emotional therapy through her faith after a painful past. In spite of her worship Amber Lynn Costello also chosen to offer sex services online. The decision may had concluded on a fatal encounter with a local, Long Island serial killer.

Between that September toward December, 2010 Shannan Gilbert‘s family may had pressured law authorities to find their relative. As an result Blue had a service to perform, looking for the missing Shannan close to her last known location. The search for her lead police to discover the first skeleton on December 11, 2010.

That's a long way to go to say yes, there is definitely a serial killer on the island.

Keep in mind that the killer contacted the sister of one of his victims early on.

Cellphone Calls My Offer Insight Into Serial Killer

Shortly after a 24-year-old prostitute went missing in July 2009, a mysterious male caller used her cellphone to repeatedly taunt her teenage sister, and, in one harrowing conversation, confess to her murder, several people with knowledge of the phone calls said.

At the time, the seven calls made from the phone of Melissa Barthelemy provided investigators with the clearest lead into her disappearance and presumed murder — a case that soon ran cold. But the phone calls have taken on larger significance since December, when Ms. Barthelemy’s body was discovered with the remains of three other young prostitutes off an oceanfront highway on Long Island.

Those calls, always made to Melissa’s teenage sister, Amanda, offer a valuable trove of evidence for detectives and behavioral analysts seeking insight into the personality of a suspected serial killer, current and former law enforcement officials say.

In recent weeks, Ms. Barthelemy’s mother, Lynn, has spoken about how the calls, never lasting more than three minutes, terrorized a family desperate for clues to Melissa’s whereabouts. But Lynn Barthelemy had been vague about what the caller said. She told The New York Times last week that the caller never disclosed what had become of her daughter, who lived in the Bronx.

“He kept us hopeful,” she said at the time. But in an interview on Wednesday, she said the man’s last call — which occurred at about 1 a.m. on Aug. 26, 2009, and lasted about 40 seconds — had confirmed the family’s worst fears.

“In the final call, he said he had killed her,” Lynn Barthelemy, who lives in the Buffalo area, said.

Ms. Barthelemy said she had tried to keep that detail hidden because investigators did not want her discussing the calls so that detectives could later question suspects about them, and weed out false confessions.

A lawyer for Ms. Barthelemy, Steven M. Cohen, and a law enforcement official — speaking on the condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly — confirmed that the person calling from Melissa Barthelemy’s cellphone did on one occasion state that he had killed her.

A person with knowledge of the call said that the caller had taunted Amanda, asking the teenager, “Do you think you’ll ever speak to her again?”

Amanda answered that she hoped to talk to her sister again. Then the man on the phone said that he had killed Melissa after having sex with her. Several seconds later, the caller hung up.

“Contacting the victim’s families is unusual behavior,” said Mary Ellen O’Toole, a former agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation who pursued serial killers. “It’s not a smart move to make because you are putting yourself back into the investigation, when you should be running for the hills.”

=(

The thing is, when they found the first four bodies, they found a whole bunch of other ones in the same area! Ocean Parkway. I don't know where that is, personally.
