There's plenty that think they are just as smart and witty, but they are insufferable. OMM at its worse was clearly much better than this place is now, of course. It would not surprise me if Chet still has a copy of the OMM archives. I have heard two stories of people unsuccessfully offering money for the OMM archives, with the response being that Chet didn't want to sell, not that the archive was gone. There were two times that Caltrops was better. The first was after SB left but before Bill did (July 19th, 2004 to August 24th, 2005). Everybody was here, and everyone was just killing it. Threads from that time period are a delight and it is the best overall work any forum has ever produced, in my opinion. Funny shit about a forum, for people who like reading forums. I know that time period is impenetrable to people who didn't understand all the references and relationships, though. The second time was for about a year that ended a couple months before Quétinbec left. He played the role of forum antagonist to perfection: he generated hilarious work on his own, posted great threads regularly, brought out excellence from others without having to play an obvious stooge and could engage in dialogue in deeper threads that didn't drive people away and always stayed fresh. (Those are two times in almost 10 years, and by describing them in detail, it's meant to be complimentary to the Old Man Murray forum.) the dark and gritty...Ice Cream Jonsey! |
