The ADA was basically Jason Voorhees. by Mischief Maker 09/04/2011, 1:06pm PDT
It's the same old shit. Nerdy writer expresses a forbidden sex fantasy of his to titillate the audience (I was under the impression that roofies paralyzed the victim and gave them amnesia so they can't fight back and can't identify the rapist afterward, not that they actually have an aphrodisiac effect. Was she drugged with Ecstasy?) then violently reinforces social norms once the sex has finished drawing them in.

I was roped into seeing the Sex in the City pilot recently. Kim Cattrall expresses to the girls how she has abandoned the dating game and is now just enjoying sex for the sake of sex without commitment. Sarah Jessica Parker is intrigued and experiments with an old boyfriend. She has a great time and he's okay with it too. Hey, maybe she can live as a fully expressed sexual being without exacting some sort of transaction from the man to justify having sex!

Then Chris Noth shows up. He's good looking, like most of the men on the show, but he's also capital R rich! Kim Cattrall attempts to seduce him and he is not impressed, clearly because she's too easy, and she looks devastated that he turned her down.

Then at the end of the show SJP is stuck in an alleyway somewhere without a cab and she's alone and afraid and Prince Charming rides up on a white stallion to save her in the form of Chris Noth in a chauffeured limo. In the limo she excitedly tells Noth about her newfound sexual freedom. Chris Noth expresses that his is not impressed. SJP is devastated, in the midst of all that enjoying sex she forgot that as a woman her value comes from how difficult it is to obtain access to her vagina. Forget her self-sufficient dream life with a Manhattan Apartment and dream job as a nationally syndicated columnist. If she doesn't maximize the financial rewards from selling access to her vagina (like marrying a rich man) she's a failure as a woman. She has taken that first fatal step into... the slut zone! And here's Noth playing that dreaded winning lottery ticket the day after she stops playing the game.

At the end of her ride, she asks a feeler question to Noth who confirms that she hasn't gone over the brink like Cattrall and still has a chance with him if she gets back on the straight and narrow. Screw self-determination! Screw sexual freedom! If she bags Noth, she will be able to afford overpriced outfits she can barely afford at her current salary. Less than 24 hours into her sexual emancipation she declares, "I choose clothes!!!"

Cut to a final scene of Kim Cattrall in a fabulous Manhattan apartment being undressed by a rich man who treats her like a prostitute by telling her to get the fuck out once they're done because he has to go to work tomorrow. Cattrall looks into the distance with sad eyes no doubt reflecting on how she'll die alone.

This was followed by a trailer for the movie where SJP marries Noth. He asks her, "Should I get you a ring?" She replies, "I just want a really big closet."
