So of course the platforming felt horribly stiff and unforgiving. Braid really is a puzzle game in action clothing (as opposed to something like Lumines, which is precisely the opposite). I don't ordinarily go in for puzzle games - something about feeling stupid for five hours just so I can feel smart for five minutes doesn't sit right with me - but I made a concerted effort to finish this one. I stayed up all night and still only found 57/60 puzzle pieces; some time around 7am I relented and consulted a walkthrough for the last three. (I can honestly say that I never, in a million years, would have solved at least one of them on my own, since it required allowing an enemy to kill you, and my cocky hedgehog brain just doesn't work like that.) In the end, I'd say I probably enjoyed everything about Braid except actually having to play it. Reluctant thumbs down. |
