We've been playing the same games since forever and even the best games of the last couple years have been sequels to good games from before, and enough of those sequels have been lot letdowns that it seems like things are just boring.
We lived through that period late 90s-early 00s where there was companies trying to stake out ground with new IP, and then companies trying to stake out new IP in mmos and multiplayer shit, and now...mobile games like sword and sworcery? some facebook shit maybe?
dxhr is super good, portal2 is goty (it is not close), and I have high hopes for skyrim, bf3, and I'll play TOR for sure but none of them are novel. there's no new IP there. dxhr is a sequel to a pastiche of gibson novels, portal 2 is a straight-up sequel (plus co-op!), skyrim is really morrowind 3, bf3 is going to look good and not much else, TOR won't be anything mmo players haven't seen before.
I guess Hawken looks original in the sense that they're mini Battlemechs flying around kicking the shit out of each other
it's been a while since I read a review and was like "oh shit that looks new and cool I gotta play it"...Bastion maybe. it was at least novel with the narration and aesthetic. my friends keep saying assassin's creed and the last batman game but console-style shit is enh |
