I have a Radeon 4800 series card that's over 3 years old at this point I think and Rage instantly crashed when I started it until I updated my video drivers. Now it just runs like shit. There don't seem to be any video settings beyond resolution, full screen or windowed, and anti-aliasing. You know that thing modern game engines do where they'll render certain things on the screen with low detail for a moment and then the detail will kind of fade in? With my shitty card Rage does this for everything even barely outside the frame. If you turn even slightly, whatever wasn't on the screen is in the lowest detail possible and then very noticeably the detail pops into place. Even just walking around normally if you just turn 90 degrees the whole scene is huge ugly blocks of geometry until all the detail renders in 2 seconds later, and then there's a choppy framerate. The performance on my card is so bad it's basically unplayable. I have a new card coming tomorrow, so we'll see what kind of difference a good card makes. |
