i mean officially.
btw i am moving tomorrow. remember that picture where i was like "this is my last spring in this house" i mean i knew it was coming but now that it's official i keep freaking out and drinking heavily. caltrops, i don't like moving. i am extremely sentimental and develop serious biochemically-rooted attachments to landscapes. as you know, i work in govt now, which means i am moving to a state capital. i don't have to say which one since they are all basically identical (i have been to eighteen of them so at least those 18 were identical.) but if you know state capitals, you know, like i know, that they are nothing to write home about.
the room i am sitting in will not be "home" in 24 hours!
i happen to like this room and this house, so this is all much more difficult than it has to be. the cats, sensing my angst, are genial enough to freak out a little with me and nap in curious positions on boxes and packages and upended mattresses.
my new home is a mile and a half from my office, so instead of killing many hours a day on commuting, i will lazily amble over in the morning, and lazily amble home in the evening. it is much more difficult to break up with this house than it was to break up with the WS, so the commute thing is not a consolation so much as an excuse. in a year or so i can reasonably expect to either 1) be shown politely to the door, 2) receive a ridiculous promotion, or 3) be employed with the federal government overseeing the national roll-out version of the project i'm currently working on. in any event, i'll be moving again. but the next time it will not be so difficult because i won't have any real memories of the place i'm about to move into.
what a weird thought. it's like i'm planning to live in a hotel for a year.
btw the main vendor on my project is oracle, and that is a fucking treat, let me tell you. that is something else. i really want to fuck larry ellison. not because i think he's hot but he's just so out there, you know? totally ensconced in his dream world - so deeply that its rime whitens the corporate rhetoric all the way down to the middle management and consultant layer. i'd buy him a hot dog. |
