As an alternative, Windows 7 comes with a free WinXP virtual machine. If you decide later that you want to keep UAC, you can go here and it will show you how to set it up on your Windows 7 machine. The XP virtual machine may give you better compatibility with some games (I dunno). http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/
There's also compatibility modes for running older .exes but I imagine you've probably already tried that.
