I grew up a ketchup on hotdogs guy and when I make them at home that's still what I eat, but there's this place in boston called spike's that has a version of a chicago dog and i used to get them once a month or so. I think the anti-ketchup thing makes no sense if it's ketchup vs mustard, but it makes a ton of sense if it's ketchup+mustard vs chicago dog toppings.
because look at the ingredients in heinz ketchup and then look at what, beyond mustard, is on a chicago dog. it's either the exact same ingredients (celery salt, tomato) or near-identical flavors (vinegar vs pickles), except the fucking chicago dog ingredients are fresh.
as a side thing here in SF the street vendors sell bacon-wrapped dogs with ketchup mustard onions jalapenos and...mayonnaise |
