| This is the only community I've ever posted on more than once in all my years of using the internet (and that was after years of lurking), mainly because of shit like this. I remember there was some comic that had a story thread where someone set up a dating service for shut-in nerds to meet regular girls, and the dudes immediately turned into raging jackasses because being a shut-in nerd doesn't make you a good person, it just means you're a JOOOOCK who chose a path that didn't give immediate rewards/constant self confidence boosters (Math nerds think girls can't do math, stereotype threat, people getting bro'd because they didn't realize that's not how you get a girlfriend, every SMBC comic, etc.). These are all topics for another day.
ANYWAY. I've actually been fretting about Mass Effect 3 all week since I discovered that origin won't let me use my US credit card when I'm outside of the US and is displaying all its prices in rupiah(?). Luckily GOG works fine and I'm rediscovering how great it feels to ruin the computer's shit in Master of Orion II, so I'm all set for space explosions (I am the reapers). I really don't think there's anything inherently wrong with wanting to skip combat if it's especially shitty and the story is actually enjoyable, but that's a rare occurrence. I recently did my own personal test of time on a bunch of PS1 RPGs, and I found that with the exception of Lunar 1 and 2 and some boss fights, almost every single one could be beaten by jacking up the speed to 5x and holding down confirm. I think her comment might've made sense 10-15 years ago, but now you're talking about paying $60 + possible DLC for a story that's usually about equal to fanfiction (and not even the slash-crossover shit that you can send to people for a laugh). As much as Minsc and Merrill make me giggle, I'd still say they have the same depth as Homestuck characters (Am I allowed to like Homestuck here? I'm always afraid it puts me somewhere between a weeaboo and a furry, but I like playing the music when I do my retro RPGing). What would have happened if Caltrops HAD gotten a plug and 1000 or even just 50 people swarmed in and started posting all at once? Would it be a golden age of discussion and reviews or would you just delete everything and shut down the site as soon as someone posted an arrow to the knee joke? |
