Yeah, on one hand, she isn't the first person to get beat up over Twitter. I thought her comment about having a vagina and game job was funny (even though she doesn't seem that pumped about making games - whatever, it was still funny). Looking through the people (men and women) who gave her shit, well, every one I took a look at was obviously a loser -- there aren't enough hours in the day to take down those pieces of shit individually.
I don't want to equivocate someone trashing that internet marketer wwinternet guy and people going after her: vitriol towards unpopular people on the internet is consistently and way out of scale more vicious when the unpopular person is female. it happens on this forum as well as pretty much everywhere else, I don't blame women for concealing their gender or just not engaging the public because of that. I don't feel any kind of impulse to trash the people who post mean shit at her, it's enough that what they're doing is not right and they should not do it.
in this case that is not the reason this person should not be speaking for bioware: every word she posts anywhere is along the lines of "I tried to make sure this game is going to be bad and if I have any more say in it I will make it worse." ea/bioware literally needs to shut that down right now.
That's the thing, I would love another game like BG2, but I'm not paying money for squee content written by people like that. I'm not saying what I like is any better, it's just what I like. If anything, I would encourage BioWare to break the series into two: non-stop barechested cut scenes for those who enjoy that sort of thing, and push-glasses-on-nose D&D tactics for people like me. :(
she was a fanfic author before she was hired. it puts me in an odd spot because I natively classify fanfic authors with furries and pedophiles where it's basically open season all year, but! there are a lot of women who write fanfic as like a psychological crutch and I don't understand it well enough to know if taunting them is making me part of the problem so I've backed way off. suffice it to say I don't need that shit in a videogame but I don't much care if they want to put it in as long as I can like avoid dealing with the intricacies of it.
the hating combat thing is a serious problem. if a game's combat is too hard but I still want to go through the story, I open the console and put godmode and move on, and really if that's what she wants to have as an option then I don't care. however the fact that she has a lot of say in how the game is structured with combat is still a huge problem, especially for a game series that has serious problems offering consistently engaging play.
I would also really like a bg3 and I never needed that NWN bullshit. infinity engine squad-level combat forever. |
