The New Urth is first person with a narrator, Severian, who claims to have an eidetic memory, but definitely leaves some key shit out. Initially the vibe I got was 'Our own world millenia ence, a decaying planet waiting for....well shit to pay out.' It is phenomenal and rewards rereading like a motherfucker. Gene Wolfe likes to drop the casual revelation. On the flip side, The Litany of the Long Sun is third person omniscience following one Patera Silk. And lastly? Fifth head of Cerberus has colonial apartheid, paranoid secret police and a mad scientist or two. I warn you, at times they are a pain in the ass, but worth it because of that pain not in spite of. Gene Wolfe doesn't just hand you a story.
