All the ads made it look like some weak "safe" anti-social movie like Bad Teacher or Christmas with the Kranks, but holy shit what a refreshingly mean and nasty movie.
None of the jokes are funny on paper, but the performances and delivery make it all brilliant. Billy Bob is probably the only honest comedic alcoholic since Walter Matthau in The Bad News Bears (oddly Billy fucked this up in that movie's remake). Even John Ritter gets to shine and the strain of it made him drop dead. |
