Another question, will CANVAS kill FLASH? (Not a comic book question!) by Tansin A. Darcos (TDARCOS) 01/30/2013, 10:23pm PST
HTML5 introduces the CANVAS element which allows for creation of animations, audio and playing videos. There are some amazing games that have been done using the CANVAS element and Javascript that normally would require Macromedia Adobe Flash to produce. This reduces the overhead needed to do games and decreases the need for expensive additional compilers and having to keep a separate source code library and binary in addition to the website code.

The CraftyJS javascript framework uses the CANVAS element to allow the production of some really addictive game samples. Check out the project page.

But, with the introduction of CANVAS and programmable graphics/sound capability through Javascript is it likely to make a dent in the use of Flash or possibly mostly replace it? I mean it in the sense that yes, people sometimes do use Perl on websites, with PHP integrated into Apache it has more-or-less replaced all other programming languages for server-side programming.
