Stern Pinball mentions on their website about the offering of their latest pinball machine - a Marvel Comics-licensed game called Avengers Pro - sells for $5699. Presuming this is purchased for an arcade or commercial installation and not for a private buyer who just has the kind of money that they can afford to put a pinball machine in their home, which means if customers are paying 50c per game, that you need 11,398 plays on the machine to break even.
Yeah, but they are on location at bars, typically. If I buy a gin and tonic for $4.75 and it costs the bar a dollar for that drink and I only went to that bar because they had a pinball table, then the profit in the alcohol will start to cover the price of the pinball table.
I suspect that bars get tables for a little bit less than what Stern places as the MSRP, but I'd be surprised if it were more than a couple hundred bucks off that figure.
