There's a new payment system for internet transfers called Dwolla in which they provide a better alternative to any of the current credit card payment systems out there now, especially for transactions via the internet.
- Transfers of $10 or less are free
- Transfers over $10 are 25c.
You heard me right, it's possible to collect a micropayment of 1c or 5c or any amount up to $10 and pay nothing. No transaction fee, no percentage, nothing. And for anything above $10, the transaction fee is only a quarter. I only just discovered this about a couple of days ago.
Who the hell needs Bitcoin and the crap involved just to allow for micropayments? If the people running Dwolla can make a go of this it can change so many things, because the biggest problem of some content that could be offered on the web was that it was too expensive to give away but not valuable enough to cover the minimum it costs to run a transaction, e.g. you can't sell something worth maybe 5c to 60c when the service charge to collect that was at least 35c.
And fuck Paypal and all the ways they screw people over.
This is why I'm recommending people look into this if you either plan to accept payments over the Internet or have to make electronic payments. With the Internet collapsing the cost of communication compared with everything else - you can send an e-mail for free to anyone vs. having to pay at least a few cents to send an SMS via cell phone - I am surprised that nobody thought of a way to make small transfers cheap or to reduce the huge fees for credit card charges.
I am not receiving any fee or commission of any kind for making this recommendation. I just think it's a terrific idea and I want to see it succeed.
