In-depth reviews that compare a game to other hallmarks of the genre, particularly along the lines of "If you liked {X} game, then you will like {Y} game. Absence of paragraphs and paragraphs ranting about the reviewer's own pet peeves. A brief analysis of how a particular game fits into the development of gaming as a whole. Careful examination of what a particular game brings to the table that is new, or how a particular game re-invents a particular element of a genre. Foresight with which to predict the creation of a new style of game and/or the successful blending of two previously unconnected ones. A studied and careful de-emphasis of overly clever pop culture references in a review I am attempting to glean information from in order to buy something, not to marvel at how many syllables and namedrops were used per sentence.
