Really happy with the state of computer games right now.
It felt like we were in some fucked up trough for a couple years there where every single IP you could think of was being given the Michael Bay style of moviemaking treatment, only applied to video games. Syndicate, Shadowrun, XCOM, etc were all being turned into FPS's. But now it seems like the pendulum is swinging back towards good games.
Really excited about Star Citizen, the Planescape sequel, and etc now.
It's not a pendulum: no one bought Syndicate, it's one of the games that got the CEO pushed out. People literally told 2k Marin to eat a dick over the XCOM shooter. Microsoft's Shadowrun made them drop development on the FASA license and opened up the indie stuff we're seeing for that now. These are huge, big-budget failures and they happen again and again because there's a huge piece of the PC audience that doesn't want every game to be an FPS (jeep from 1999 says hello)
There's already stuff on the steam workshop for Shadowrun Returns and that mod kit is going to be paying off for both the studio and the players for a long time. |
