The costume party mission sums up the missed opportunity of this game by fabio 07/28/2013, 3:56pm PDT
Too easy and half baked objectives

Tallboys: only enemy in the game remotely a threat, run into maybe 3 of them very late into the game.

So, the party.

It's a masked ball and I can walk around freely. I'm after the Regent's mistress but I don't know which daughter of this family is my target. I'm told that all of them are wearing the same costume but in different colors. I have to traverse the party gathering clues to piece together which one is which. Maybe some overheard conversations, a little seduction, rifling through personal belongings upstairs, following each suspect to notice any subtle tells in movement or conversation. We're gonna have to do some sneaky shit to separate the health from this crate!

Immediately on entering, a servant tells me to meet a guy who shows up as a mission objective arrow. He tells me the first name of the target is Lydia. He wants me to bring her alive to the cellar where he'll make her disappear because he's a creeper admirer. In the next room, a woman who speaks up and says she wants to talk to me tells me which color dress Lydia is wearing.

If I ignored the giant objective arrow, I could have gone upstairs and the first room would have had a love letter from the Regent telling the name Lydia and her dress color.

WITH THAT MYSTERY OUT OF THE WAY, how do I tackle the target in the middle of a crowded party while pretending I couldn't just easily slaughter all the guards? The non-lethal route seems especially tricky as I'd have to drag her unconscious body across the entire house in plain sight. Maybe I'll wait till she goes to the bathroom, knock her out there, then plot a complex route to the cellar using blink when the coast is clear.

Or just go right up to her and say that someone wants to meet her in the cellar. She goes straight down alone.

This game is up there with XCOM for not quite there proof of concept.
