You're never going to ride in a car singing "What I Got" by Sublime as a zombie in Saints Row IV. The first few story mission "intros" you get from Kinzie feel out of place, I liked the cutscenes where I got to screenshot myself yacking with people. Yeah, they were small cutscenes, but with my own custom character they were fun to take pictures of.
Your superpowers pretty much render driving a car pointless (though it's incredibly easy now to store custom vehicles and summon them if that's your thing).
Instead of safehouses you basically jack out into the real world on a space ship that we'll just call the Normandy. Complete with your crew hanging out for you to have convenient sidequest talks with them. (Wrex. Shepherd.) I get the parody but I don't think this really works.
Also the intro takes about an hour or two to finally release you into the wild and let you tear stuff up.
Part of this is probably because SR4 is partially a new game and partially a trashed final DLC/expansion for SR3 called Wrath of the Dominatrix or something.
For a Saints Row 3 lover, this isn't really a big deal. I thought the intro to SR3 was pretty dumb but I eventually began to enjoy it after I got to fully customize my outfit. For someone new to the series 60$ may feel a bit steep.
