I've recently gone on a Patrician 1-3 binge by fabio 08/26/2013, 5:46am PDT
Patrician 1: Unplayable interface, but bare tits!

P2: Huge improvement where the modern interface first emerges. No more tits =(

P3: Released as a P2 expansion in Germany, full sequel here.

I say all this even though I am absolutely terrible at this game. I can run along for about 6-8 hours and then it all falls apart. I know I'm doing something wrong or missing a step or w/e because the economic model is stable on its own. I guess there's a part beyond my current level where you take over your hometown, start trading inland, and then start your own cities, but I'm still working out how many production buildings of each type is optimal, so I basically bankrupt myself over and over.

If it's anything like Patrician 3, then production centers are more for creating jobs in the town, improving its status, and raising your reputation. You're going to make a modest profit at best, and that's if you don't fall behind on keeping raw materials stocked, building centers only in towns that get bonuses to those products, and are able to always sell off your stock at decent prices. If you're looking for pure profit, there are much better alternatives like loans or just buying more ships.

Pirating is the most insanely profitable venture I've run into so far. Improve a Cray to max, throw on a captain with fighting bonus, max out crew, attack every lone merchant ship you can find with a tiny crew and full cargo.

Now if only they brought back the tits.
