I'm rather persnickety about my trackballs. I can't stand the thumb operated variety, the ones I go for are center ball surrounded on both sides by buttons. Thumb operates left click, pinky operates right click, middle 3 fingers dance over the ball for extremely precise control.
Trackballs in general:
+ Unparalleled precision control. Alpha Protocol hacking minigame unplayable without a pad? Pfft!
+ No need to lift and reposition.
- Need to take the ball out and dust the contacts monthly.
- Extended gaming use pretty much necessitates a padded wrist rest.
To my knowledge you pretty much have 2 options for center ball trackballs: Cheap and Expensive.
The cheap option is the Logitech marble mouse.
+ Cheap
+ Small Desktop footprint
+/- More comfortable for small hands
- Tend to die after 2 years of gaming use
- No scroll wheel
The expensive option, that I'm currently using is the Kensington Expert Mouse.
+ Giant ball = greater control
+ Scrollwheel!
+/- More comfortable for large hands
- Expensive
- Larger desktop footprint
Hope this helps! |
