A few people said that a quest journal would really help with the huge mess of quest chains in the wandering part, but I wanted to see how far I could get without delving back into RPG maker scripts (I wasted a TON of time playing around with those for nothing). I guess now I have to.
-Do you think that the wandering around town bit could even be salvaged? Would cutting down on the item chains help, or is the format itself inherently flawed?
-Did you find the game funny or at least charming? Were there any jokes that were just ugh?
Ordinarily I'd say it would be good if I always had a clear idea of what my objectives are and what my capabilities are, because that would mean you could go a little easier on the hints and just let me enjoy the process of figuring out clever ways to use my capabilities to accomplish my objectives. But if having that clarity of information isn't actually going to change the way I approach the game - if the dominant strategy is still lawnmowing each area, spacebarring every hotspot to milk it for dialogue (which, in the case of your game, is usually well worth reading - no complaints there) and trigger any state changes - then it doesn't really matter what I know or when I know it, does it?
But again, I'm really not much of an RPG guy, so it's possible I just misunderstand what's supposed to be appealing about this sort of world exploration / thematic busywork. |
