Of note:
a) At least two admissions that it was targeted against an extremely small user group
b) Concerned, very specific, paid-for cheats
c) VAC was completely powerless to do anything against the cheats [without this last-ditch measure]
d) This is all blowback/PR after they were caught
This sheds light on a couple of avenues. Maybe VAC was facing cuts, and needed a "big win" to justify expenses (especially near end of fiscal year). Perhaps STEAM has an unexposed underbelly, and whatever is left of their R&D is ready to strike down the new shiny hammer to catch a few roaches. Congrats, but like GABEN even admits "it's cat and mouse"... so it'll continue until STEAM is an unusable, bloated shit sack of system hooks that constantly scans for "Trust". Uh-oh, looks your Trust badge hasn't been audited in a while, and that concerns us. Please check the verification e-mail, and sync immediately!
3) Is Valve using its market success to go evil? I don't think so, but you have to make the call if we are trustworthy. We try really hard to earn and keep your trust.
"We try really hard to keep you buying", and we don't give a shit because you signed off on a vaguely worded agreement. |
