| Most of my late game deaths were me jumping into the middle of 1000000 bullets and getting smashed from every direction and dying within half a second. I don't know how much a damage indicator would help, but I usually deal with the flying tracker enemies by either using one of the splash damage guns and shooting at my feet a bunch or by running straight at whatever cannons are shooting at me, since most of them only have a 180 degree shooting range. The flying buzzsaws have a SLIGHT buzzing sound effect, but you can only really hear it when everything else is dead. The main enemies that I know will always have a good chance of killing me are the sawblade shooters since someone thought it would be a great idea to occasionally spawn a row of 12 right above me.
Now that I've played a bit more, I noticed that enemies are either herders or killers. Herders (spikey ball shooters, purple orb shooters, the tiny pew pew pew flying bots) can't really do much damage, but they make you panic and run straight into the killers (all the sawblade things), which can take off insane chunks of health. Playing enough to learn all the rooms kind of helps (I'm still seeing new rooms in the first level), but the best strategy I found is to run as fast as you can to the exit and then shoot everything from behind. 90% of the time there'll be a whole bunch of cannons aimed right at the entrance to kill anybody who isn't running as soon as they walk into the room. As with FTL and Binding of Isaac, you can master an area and still get smashed down by the boss if you didn't pick the right weapon from the start. A fully upgraded machine gun will take out pathetic little bits of a boss's health compared to a level 3 handcannon. Constantly jumping around like an asshat seems to help a lot when you can't look around to dodge. I had a week off before restarting work, so this was pretty much my whole day. |
