KVMs aren't os specific and usually don't even require drivers, you'd just set the monitor to "generic vga" and move on. I have never attempted to use an HDMI kvm because that seems silly. maybe that's the only output of the hardware? my first thought is that this is a datacenter kind of problem, so you'd be spending $200+ to fix it. you could look at the IOGEAR GCS1794
if this is about like having these things in a datacenter and accessing them via kvm through emergencies, there's no need for hdmi and it's probably a bad idea, always use the oldest dumbest most reliable tech, even if that's a serial squid for linux. if it's about being able to control two machines from one desktop you're better off using rdp or vnc and skipping the hardware solution.
for the desktop thing this is what I do now: I plug the two machines into the existing monitor. they each have their own keyboard and mouse. the one I won't be using gets its keyboard and mouse shoved under the desk. I remote desktop into it and basically leave that window running forever/til it crashes. everything is done from the one machine or via that window. |
