Good premise, but of course it's held back by being an anime.
Way way too many episodes padded out with spotlight monologues of characters struggling to be dutiful nationalists. One episode they spent the entire runtime on that, even though the episode was supposed to take place over 30 seconds as the characters were waiting for smoke to clear. What is this, DBZ?
When action scenes do take place, half the time they run out of money and cut to still image pans with action lines. "A quarter of a million people were thrown at the titans and slaughtered...off camera." Show that, assholes!
Imagine how awesome the show would be if they handed it over to the Last Airbender animation team.
(It might be more suspenseful if they didn't spend half a dozen episodes trying to make you guess the identity of the human titans who look and act exactly like the character inside them. "Who is controlling the blond hair chick titan that knows martial arts? I wish the blond chick martial artist, the only named character to disappear before we set out, was here to help!" is up there with "Who could the 4th child be?" in Evangelion for dumbest anime mystery.
The game is pretty awesome though! They put in online multiplayer with different play modes. "Escort the boulder carrier" and "kill the colossal titan". Should totally get a game going. |
