Oh hey, I didn't see this before my Sims posts by laudablepuss 06/01/2014, 9:38pm PDT
Last year I had biliary duct issues that ultimately required surgery. Maybe 20% to 33% of liver transplant patients end up needing biliary stents or some shit. First in early May, I was in the hospital due to an adverse reaction to the tube/ stent thing they put in me. Then in early July I had a way worse reaction, that was where I almost died. Guts stopped working, I forget the word they had for it. After that I told my doc, "this is ridiculous" or words to that effect. So we did the surgery option and I was in the hospital for 17 days in October, 2013. That was longer than my hospital stay for my transplant. I was pretty depressed, partly because I wasn't getting better and partly because the Keystone Cops Broncos vs Colts monday nighter fell in this period.

Two other things made that October stay unpleasant. One was that when I came out of surgery, I had ZERO FEELING in my right arm. It was toast. I slowly got my feeling back to some extent, except for my thumb, forefinger, and middle finger. I still have numbness in those fingers but my hand strength and coordination are back. The second thing was a chemical burn that I received due to some medicine that "infiltrated" my left biceps. Ow. In the months following, I learned a new word because of that: debridement. OW!

On the other hand, my girlfriend and I had been dating for a few months by the time of my May hospitalization. She stayed with me and helped out (she's also a CNA). I was really touched. :)

One last bit of excitement: after my October stay, while an outpatient, I had a full-on rejection episode. Lots of solumedrol later I was fine again. Whew.

Anyway, so far this year I'm doing great. I'm playing my guitar a bit again and my girlfriend and I have been living together for almost 6 months now. She's the best thing that ever happened to me.
