| I went over to a friend's house. He has a PS4. I get consoles 4-27 years after they come out, and had no plans to get a PS3, much less a PS4. Nothing personal, I just get consoles for the exclusives.
Man, PT is pretty great. I tried the first Silent Hill game for the Playstation. I think the disc is still downstairs. It was fine, but ... OK, it wasn't really that frightening. I hate to say it, but games can quicken my pulse. PT, for instance, quickened my pulse and I *knew* (which means I *felt*) that something was going to happen. There is a scene in the novel A Fire in the Sun where the protagonist and his friend connect themselves into a two-player video game. The goal is to imagine a scenario that terrifies the other player. The friend does a good job, but it's a bit predictable. The protagonist never panicked. In turn, the protagonist made his friend feel like so much peaceful time was passing before he ever got to the terror. PT does this extremely well. I'm jaded, I realize that now. It sucked me in anyway. PT is gorgeous. It has the best graphics I've ever seen. I've lived in places that weren't much nicer than the townhouse or rowhouse it depicts. I can't clean anything, most places I live would descend into that anyway. And it's all in one "room." I know that Silent Hill 4 was coloned The Room, so maybe this is territory they explored before, I don't know. It was new to me. There was a puzzle that involved a framed photo that I loved. I didn't figure it out, but I looked up the solution after 15 minutes and I should have figured it out. Brilliantly executed for the PS4. The teaser did its job. I'm sure as hell going to buy Silent Hills, even if pinback gives me a hard time for calling that, its name. But PT stands on its own as probably the best sub-half-hour game ever made. the dark and gritty...Ice Cream Jonsey! |
