Lords of Shadow 2 by Lurker 15954 09/12/2014, 5:22pm PDT
I took a break from Mega Man X6 to start this. It's a great game! Instead of me going over the good points, let's just God Hand the PC Gamer review (58 PC, 70 XBox, and 63 PS3 critics versus 7.8, 8.0, and 7.9 users):

1. PC Gamer on the stealth, " Belmont spends a lot of the first hours of the game, and far too much of the rest of it, sneaking through the headquarters of an evil pharmaceutical company evading armoured demonic guards." Not true. There are 3 rooms where you do the stealth. They take maybe 10 minutes each, accounting for failure. EVERY stealth section starts you off in a safe position with a view of every guard. You throw a bat swarm at one guard when he's close, then possess the other one and open the door.

There's a boss stealth section later where if you're caught by the vampire queen, you'll have to fight 2 guys. This one was actually clever since you'll be hiding in cover then she'll run over to the other side, flip a switch, and your cover will sink into the ground. They're ALL just timing puzzles and calling them "Stealth sections" is incredibly misleading (though I guess almost every stealth game is a timing puzzle).

2. PC Gamer on the combat "And while a well-timed press of the block button will parry an attack, unblockables must be dodged. Every enemy in the game has an unblockable, and every single one uses the exact same sound effect, so good luck with that." THEY USE THE EXACT SAME SOUND EFFECT SO YOU KNOW THAT AN UNBLOCKABLE IS COMING UP AND YOU NEED TO DODGE IT INSTEAD OF PARRY. JESUS CHRIST.

3. Other various sites have called the story "incomprehensible". You're Dracula, the NES games and Symphony of the Night happened (the intro is a retelling of SotN), and you wake up in the future. You have to kill Satan. Patrick Stewart gets villainous monologues and you're greeted by fun scenes like draining the blood of a family of three in first person.

4. Other various sites complaining that it's a mish mash of other games. Darksiders and Darksiders 2 were the exact same thing, but with a HEAVY numbers based system that killed the combat and terrible Todd McFarlane art design (Currently 80-84 on metacritic).

The one major complaint I have about this game is that almost EVERY single battle is against a single type of enemy. The enemies look amazing (especially the future mech riot police), so it's disappointing that there hasn't been a whole lot of on-screen variety. I'm somewhere like 1/3 of the way in, so hopefully that will change (the first game started off slow, too, but got REALLY good after the halfway point).
