Is it me or does difficulty spiral out of control in act 2? by Rafiki 10/04/2014, 11:50am PDT
Right around Damonta there's a sharp increase, but I'm currently saved in California at a settlement where I have to rescue cattle, and I'm up against around 9 enemies that all have 150 health, 95% chance to crit, 500 action points, Merton, and ninja vanish. Meanwhile, I have guys with levels in the lows 20s, 2 melee guys with a fucking crowbar that I've had since Ag Center /Highpool because there doesn't seem to be any upgrades anywhere, and, well, my weapons in general haven't gotten an upgrade since the best you could buy in Ranger Citadel after Ag Center/ Highpool, since upgrades don't really seem to exist. I found a random sniper rifle that has a 10-98 damage range, and an energy weapon that has an armor threshold of 6 which seems awesome, except energy weapons are total and complete garbage except for the 1 area there were robots. The game also has the most unreliable RNG, since I constantly find myself in situations with 90%+ success chance to hit / pick a lock / crack a safe / disarm a bomb, but will miss or critically fail. I feel like my party couldn't unzip their fly to take a piss without the tab severing their fingers and trapping them in their pants forever. And why can't brawlers attack diagonally? They're already at a huge disadvantage compared to ranged weapons because they have to waste action points to close distance, and now I have to waste even more to make sure I'm not at an angle when attacking. What in the world is the benefit of brawling?

So is there a secret I'm missing, or should I just have given everyone 10 points in demolitions and only carried rocket launchers and grenades?

I was really liking this game, and I appreciate the difficulty, but this seems a little much. Now that I typed that out, I remember now that I set the difficulty one below the max, so maybe that's my problem, but prior to California everything seemed appropriately difficult.
