Yes. To be honest if we got an account with pghoster we could have the old forum up, IN THEORY*. But they were huge losers that had a laughable admin front that was always down and also expensive as I understand it. There would also be no integration between the old data and the current data.
So I need to dump the current MySQL database and create some conversion tables. For instance, in Postgresql the data may go like this:
Base#, Thead#, PostID, Author, Date, Subject, "I went to that one bar and the guy said no pajamas next time."
And MySQL people dance like this:
PostID, Author, Date, Subject, Base#, Thead#, "I went to that one bar and the guy said no pajamas next time."
And then we have to create a lookup table for the different bases. "Rants" is the first base in both, but the valuable Boon-ga Boon-ga base might be #125 in the old database and #5 in the new one.
Once we have that all plotted out we just make a tool to go line-by-line through the Postgresql database, make the conversions when necessary and attach it to the MySQL one, as if all these new posts were just created (with the appropriate, older time/date stamp).
I'll then probably upload it to my other website to test it out because I wouldn't want the first attempt to be on our current database. If it went well I'd shut the forum down for a few minutes and upload the new, merged MySQL database here. Unfortunately, as you know, I checked and there are no pajama stories to be found. :(

*IN THEORY = Who knows if uploading the Postgresql database could/would actually work. It should, but I wouldn't be surprised if something hilariously went wrong while attempting to do it. But going that route has more negatives than positives. |
