Usually when someone says something has "a semblance of depth" it means that it appears to have depth, but actually doesn't. Is that what you meant? If so, please justify your wrong and bad opinion.
I actually don't think it's THAT super simple to pick up either. Maybe now that there's a guide (which I haven't looked at, so I don't know how detailed it is) it's better, but there was a lot of shit I didn't get when I started. Like, you can cast multiple Magic Shields/Swords/Bows and the effects will stack (with diminishing returns after the first one). I also didn't realize at first that successfully disbelieving a creature doesn't use your spell cast for that round. Seems obvious in retrospect, I just thought the illusion mechanic was kinda broken I guess.
I also still don't quite understand exactly how magic weapons work. If I get hit, sometimes I'll lose my sword or bow, but I'm not sure if means it saved my life from a successful attack, or if even an unsuccessful attack against your wizard costs you your weapon, or what.
None of this is really crucial though, and it is perfectly possible to hold your own without knowing them. The basic mechanics are immediately obvious and fun.
