7-day trade ban by Rafiki 12/28/2014, 9:24pm PST
So when you log into Steam from a new "device" it says you're banned from trading your inventory or accessing the community market for 7 days. There's no way to verify or authenticate the device. This is after I had to have Steam send me TWO verification codes to log into Steam and the community portion of Steam on this PC. I'm sitting here logged in on my mobile phone as well, the mobile app displaying the PC I'm logged in on, but still no way to verify. The mobile app cannot initiate or accept trades (the mobile app can initiate remote downloads). I Googled this and apparently this is some anti-scammer protection to prevent people from stealing your account and emptying your inventory. So basically someone can log into my account, buy thousands of dollars worth of games out of the catalog with no wait period or restriction with my stored credit card information, download everything, edit my profile to change my picture to a photoshopped picture of Paul Steed with my face superimposed over a booth babe, but heaven forbid they steal a trading card or TF2 hat worth four cents.

The solution to this was to use my mobile phone to log into the desktop version of the community website and conduct the trade that way. I don't actually know if I had logged into the community site on this phone a long time ago or if it recognized my phone from the Steam app and didn't impose the embargo, or if their protection system is just staggeringly retarded.
