8 hours in (about to enter the Brotherhood) and I think I've maybe gotten around 15,000 total. Guns are 300-1500 each. Armor another 1000. Spells maybe 2000 total. Cyberware an overpriced ripoff. Decker stuff can easily run you thousands for laughable benefits. The freaking consumables like medkits and trauma kits are 400-1000 each. Grenades are crap. Hiring runners is 1250-2500 per run!!!
It sucks because the first mission you can hire runners for they make it sound like you'll need to hire a full crew. Then you enter the warehouse and it's just a couple of easy mercs. I could have easily solo'd the thing with the free shaman chick. I hired a full crew for the asylum and kept getting my ass kicked by the boss because one runner was a crappy physical adept and the other a totally worthless decker. Adepts should be a blast zipping all over the place like the Flash and power fisting people, but all the effort and prep they have to put into it makes them ultimately less effective than another gun. The MVP of the asylum was my melee samurai and her -2 AP katana attack against the boss. That was the only point in the game melee weapons were worth it; against a massive enemy boss with devastating attacks and a shitload of hitpoints. Against every single other enemy in the game, you can just straight up kill them and not bother with status attacks.
What a disappointment decking is. I was expecting some cool shit after the Genesis version showed us how it's done 20 years ago. Imagine my limp boner when I found out it's exactly the same thing as normal combat, but with Tron visuals, even right down to not bothering with anything but guns (replaced by shooting data fireballs at each other or whatever). Not counting the tutorial Matrix level (where you get the janitor who can do the whole thing himself), there has been a grand total of one area to enter the Matrix...in the asylum cafeteria. Your reward? 2 (shitty) grenades and some data you can trade for a karma point or 1000 nuyen. In 8 hours, that's all anyone has to show for investing thousands and at least half a dozen karma points into decking.
The displayed chance to hit is bullshit. Way too many instances of missing four times in a row on 70% or higher, and anything under 50% is a guaranteed miss.
