The AI way overvalues money (dust) over everything else. It's ridiculously easy to buy them off into permanent alliances, and any tech you need can be bought from them with money that's way easier to get than research points.
The AI will never form a plan with synergy tech combos and will just go with random grab bags every game. The worst I saw was when they played a faction that relied entirely on dust and they never researched a single dust boosting tech.
The AI will never attack you. My AI neighbor had a huge military right next door. I had zero. I had never engaged in diplomacy since I was the insect faction that can't form treaties and whom everyone despises. The entire game the AI never so much as threatened extortion.
The only time the AI is a constant threat is when you're playing the cultist faction. They only get a single city and their entire economy revolves around converting neutral villages. Said villages do not technically count as your territory and can be attacked without declaring war. The AI will continue to treat them as neutral and picks them off whenever it comes across them. This is the only scenario where the AI actually attacks and cannot be bought off (even if you sign a peace treaty it will attack villages).
Seems like the strategy every game is to go unrestrained expansion + dust boom with zero regard to military until you're ready to crush someone. The only threat the AI poses is possibly achieving a quest victory condition*, but in that case you just crush them before that happens which you can do because you've been booming all game with tech combos that work.
