Here's what I've seen so far in response to the league's report and the penalties handed down.

Nobody knew about the rule
It didn't affect the outcome of the game
Brady has a right to privacy
The NFL cannot supoena things
The NFL is not important
Endless references to in-game penalties being equivalent
$25k fine is what is prescribed in the rule book
The NFL does not have conclusive proof
Physics proves that the footballs were not deflated intentionally
It's all arbitrary

Are any of these compelling? In regards to the physics complaint, do we not have a clear text message thread about deflating footballs? Is that more compelling than the guestimates and uncertainties of the physics analyses that are out there?

I get that to people five years younger than I am, he's the equivalent of the guy that voiced Optimus Prime, but Jesus.

I think most of the outrage is due to the fact that there is absolutely no consistency in "punishment" from the commish's office. (And I'll let go of the whole thing as to whether or not they need to "punish" their players for non-game-related things.)

Giving two games to Ray Race for almost killing his wife and four to Brady for essentially the football equivalent of putting oil on his mitt makes Goodell look like an idiot. (Again, if you buy into it being the NFL's problem as to what these unhinged lunatics do to regular people - at this point, I would no sooner approach an NFL player if I saw one at a restaurant than if I saw a majority of the Sinister Six hanging around.) I want to say Roethlisberger got four. (Annnd again, he was never convicted of anything, although he so obviously did it he should be locked up.) So deflating footballs is equal to raping somebody, but then Sean Payton got an entire year -- not 16 games, but a year -- for something everyone agrees he didn't know was going on. Bellichick got nothing and he also did not know what was going on.

I don't care, not really, because it's clear that there is absolutely no rhyme or reason and half the people who get suspended don't deserve it and the other half deserve prison time. It makes a person who I think is doing a terrible job look like a dumb asshole, so I applaud that part.
