A good friend loves Van Halen, so we took him to see them for his birthday a couple years ago. Roth was so terrible that it not only put me off ever seen VH again (naturally) but live music from an old band ever again. He was easily the third-best singer in the band after Eddie and Wolfgang. I get that he's in his sixties or whatever, but at least put in a kareoke-like effort. At least SAY THE WORDS to the GODDAMN SONG so there's not silence there. What a piece of shit, what an unprofessional piece of shit.
I haven't clicked on that Pixies vid because I want to maintain respect for them.
Most new / young / whatever bands I follow aren't particularly gifted on a performance level, and the bands old enough to play can't be bothered to try. I guess there's some sweet spot in the middle but when I go see a performance it's to put as much gin in my body as humanly possible.
Death Cab For Cutie, for all their faults, made their songs sound better than I'd ever heard them when I saw them around 2004 or so. Of all people.
