GoG is now putting soundtrack listings with games instead of their own ghetto like they did with movies. Fuck.
Golden Wake - Wadget Eye should stick to the scifi setting. This 1920s game looks good, but doesn't have any real bite. It's just a story of a greedy realtor who fucks with the mafia and loses. The end.
Unholy Heights - Shitty tower defense which is one of my least favorite gaming categories. You run an apartment building for monsters and fight off the good guys. Great idea except removing the ability to place characters on a map sucks away so much of the tactics. .
Pixeljunk Monster - Better tower defense. Easy overall. Might be worth getting on sale someday but probably not as there's dozens of free tower defense games out there.
SR3 - This game is as awesome as everyone said.
King of Dragon Pass - A choice-em-up involving a barbaric clan. The randomness of quest successes gets old and the interface is so outdated it's off putting. This coming from someone who finds SMAC and Pharaoh relatively okay despite their age. There's not a lot like it out there. Long Live the Queen is close but much more linear.
Long Live the Queen - See above. Way too restricted. Could have benefits with choices being influenced by more than 1 stat.
Another World - A game that doesn't stand up after all these years. One of the earliest games I bought and realized how powerful nostalgia goggles on reviewers could be. Reviews that start off on how they played this as a kid and it was awesome are dead giveways that the game probably doesn't stack up now.
Evil Genius - DK2 spiritual successor. A game where you're better off having more bellboys than hired guns. The style and elements are all there. It doesn't come together.
Dustforce DX - I really want to like this game. This video lays out the positive.
And yet... The game doesn't automatically recognize a gamepad and you have to manually change the controls. The hub world also needs work. The DX update adds more easy levels. Great! Where the hell are they? They're not labeled or obvious. The emphasis is on pure acrobatics with enemies mainly there to hit to restart your double jump. His review is right and yet I almost wish there was some dumb story or something. The game just has no personality and without stars/rings to collect, it doesn't feel as satisfying to complete levels. The levels are meant to be done in chunks but it's hard to tell what's opening up because the hub world sucks so much. Still, this is the game Super Meat Boy should have been.
