Been a year since I've played.
The one good change: all upgrades are available every match, you're just limited to purchasing 3 of them. This was badly needed.
The bad: everything else
This is no longer the friendly casual game you remember. It appears only diehard players are left. Awesomenauts used to be notable for being the only DOTA game where people were rarely raging shitheads. Now it's the #1 concentrated shithead stomping ground, even beyond DotA 2 and LoL. People threatening to quit unless you do 2 minutes into the game when you haven't even died yet. You also constantly run into obvious premade tryhard teams with the perfect initiate, stun, nuke combo of a volleyball team right from the start.
They cut passive income by half and removed the solar tree (money over time) item. This makes games take longer, you will rarely get even 2/3rds of your total upgrades in any given game, and snowballing is more rampant since more of your income is from kills and map control now.
Droids no longer deploy a shield when under turret fire. I have no clue why. It just extends the length of the game. This is problem when combined to the increased snowballing. Games last longer, but are effectively decided quicker.
Instead of throwing the AI Station map right into the garbage where it belonged, they "fixed" it by adding a 2nd lane. But they made it harder to reach the top. The low gravity effect in the middle is gone, and the middle turns into a blast furnace periodically making it impossible to cross lanes. It's actually quicker to teleport back to base and use a jump pad to switch lanes than it is to try climbing up. It's now the slowest map in the game, regularly taking over half an hour which is ridiculous for an Awesomenautes game. Again, combined with the increased snowballing makes longer games unbearable. I swear map selected is weighted towards AI Station since there are 5 maps but it comes up nearly half the time.
Some of the new Awesomenauts are bullshit.
The game went from a quick, friendly, fun game to the serious tryhard, deathmarch slog of the rest of the genre. Fuckers. |
