Does this mean Icycalm's charm is his complete incoherence? by Worm 06/16/2015, 11:22pm PDT
It's really unfortunate that California couldn't sink into the ocean before pushing gaming into the culture war, but oh well.

I think it's kind of sad how much ridiculous back and forth there will be on this issue when it just comes down to a matter of preference. Everyone on some level likes violence, people who say they don't are probably liars or heavily medicated. For some people it stops with Game of Thrones and playing something like Soldier of Forture makes their skin crawl. Whether violence is a good thing or not is completely meaningless dribble because it's never going to stop being part of our world. Look at any random sampling of people on forums discussing this shit, it's probably some of the most rude divisive shit you'll ever see, two people who very easily could work themselves up to bashing the other's head in, all because a few sequels that used to be violent are still violent.

No one sits and scratches there head as to why there are so many sex games in Japan. It's the same reason there is so much porno in the United States, people watch it, and masturbate, and it makes them feel good. It's phenomenally easier and less risky than the real thing. I think it's the same thing with violence. It's the same thing with basically everything else. Why am I playing Life is Strange? Why did I play Beyond Two Souls? Why did I spend hundreds of hours grinding out a title in World of Warcraft? It's not some big fucking mystery. People have been cheering about real fellow human beings being torn apart since the beginning of time, people should be pleased at the forward momentum cheering about a fake demon being torn apart represents.

Maybe when we see real AI the issue of compassion toward computer characters will be pertinent, but it's always going to ring false when we're hating one another over our video game preferences.
