John Chu’s short story, “The Water That Falls on You From Nowhere,” in which a gay man decides to come out to his traditional Chinese family after the world is beset by a new phenomenon: whenever a person lies, water inexplicably falls on them
I want to steal this idea, only everyone is crying and happy at the phenomenon and whole societies are saved from dying in a drought or being poisoned from contaminated water. People just out running across dry, barren soil lying their asses off making crops grow, negating the devastating effects of global warming. Poor people lying into the heavens to drink in the cool, clean, refreshing water raining down upon them. Civilization saved through the life-giving power of lies. I'd call it, "Tom Hanks Has a Wide Range." |
