I have a Dell D600 for work that I like a lot, and a 600M I got with in the latest round of $750 off $1499
coupons for my other work that I also like, although it doesn't have the finger mouse pointer thinger, just
a touch pad.
I would keep an eye on:
http://www.techbargains.com/
and
http://www.gotapex.com/
for a good deal on a system you think will fulfill your needs. There's a whole legion of internet
dorks obsessed with spending the absolute minimum they can on electronics they don't need. Let
them work for you.
I'd advise a couple things:
- Dell/HP/Etc generally charge a lot more for memory upgrades than the market. A lot of times it's
signigicantly cheaper to just keep the 1 dimm 256M chip they have and then buy a 512 or
1g (or whatever you need) dimm from crucial.com or some other reliable memory company. It's
really easy to put in a second dimm (some notebooks make replacing the other slot a biatch though).
- If you're planning on gaming at all, get a Pentium M in the 1.6ish range and make sure the chipset
is at least ATI radeon 9xxx based. The X300 is better. Integrated graphics will have a hard time
running a lot of things.
