Facebook had hesitated to launch a dislike button. But it has come to realize that people want "the ability to express empathy" on posts about unpleasant news.
Not here yet but fuck you Zuckerberg. News about death are one of the few "real" events people have anymore. Nobody really "likes" all those wedding posts, but it's the new way of saying "how nice" in an even colder, more remote way. Whenever someone posts news about newly killed high school acquaintance you can see who the socially retarded people are by those who "like" those posts or post comments with :( emoticons. It is one of the few things that reminds everyone how the superficial network flattens complicated emotions like grief. You just want to be able to accommodate this so nobody is reminded how much of a useless time waster Facebook actually is. I only hope people start doing shit like pressing this "empathy" button for all sorts of news
"We'd like to introduce everyone to our new baby"

3 "I'm sorry about this tragedy" dislikes
Those 3 people are worth friending even if you never have or will meet them again. |
