I listened to an interview with that Dr. Drew guy, not that I'm a fan or even know that much about him. I liked his take on Twitter though: It's all Mob Behavior. We change when we're in a mob, not as dramatically as a cricket who physically changes and becomes a locust, but there's no doubt something happens in our brains when we become part of a mob. In a mob, people do things they would never do. The conditions that lead to this mob behavior are all there in Twitter. The triggers are the same. I'm talking real triggers, not "triggers" co-opted to mean "I'm offended." No opportunity for any real discussion, but just enough communication to form a mob--that's Twitter. I don't know if Dr. Drew is a shill or whatever, but I found that insightful. Twitter has kept Gamergate alive, because it encourages mobs.
As for the Gamergate woman who wrote the article? It was actual journalism. As in, not what you get from the Gaming press 99% of the time. Maybe people aren't used to this shit. It wasn't a preview, it wasn't a review, all it was was a report that some former employees were not happy with the situation. That's all it claimed. They got more than enough anonymous sources, and they got the other side from Roberts. Some people have expressed doubts about this project, and I feel this article MUST be published when Roberts and his company are still asking for money. This is an important article to publish, because people need to know if they're going to be buying fake sapceships that there are these doubts. It was actual journalism. And it was fair to Roberts.
Anyway, these poor Gamergate kids and their ethics in gaming journalism. It was all kicked off by some guy getting a handjob or something from Zoe Quinn, while he wrote articles about her. In an industry where everything is reviews and previews and so rarely journalism people can't even recognize it. Meanwhile, in Washington DC, people are actually fucking and the next morning the one goes to pass a law and the other goes to write about it. Then they fuck again and laugh about it. That's what the gaming press aspires to. Good luck, Gamergate.
