Ha ha ha, who could they be talking about? by Tales from the Borderlands review 10/05/2015, 12:21am PDT
The game started out strong, Borderlands has never been an IP I was interested in but because of Telltale's other games I decided to give it a try. And what I got was a really interesting, well-written and most importantly, genuinely funny game.
At first...

Because around episode 3, the writing became noticeably worse. By the 4th and current episode (at the time of writing this review) the writing quality has taken such an abrupt dive that I was pondering getting a refund. As it turns out Telltale decided, against better judgement, to bring in a writer from the original Borderlands games. One who apparently was not informed he was supposed to be writing for a comedic adventure game, and instead offers up some completely out-of-place social commentary about LGBT issues and untoward hostility towards the player (at the time masquerading as a bad guy, which makes it all the more strange and jarring that the player is verbally punished for trying to impersonate the bad guy as best they can). The humor is zapped from the game faster than air from a deflating tire.

If they continue to let this guy guest write for the upcoming episode 5, "Vault of the Traveler", I am unsure if I'll even bother to play it. There's only so much self-righteous and entirely uncalled for soapboxing one can handle. It's also worth mentioning that while it's great if/when LGBT characters get representation, it's just plain detrimental (and insulting) if it happens in such a hamfisted and forced way that it makes you tired of them within seconds.

How no one managed to catch on to all this before it was released is anyone's guess.

I don't remember that part. Plus, are there any queer characters in Tales? by WITTGENSTEIN 10/05/2015, 11:01am PDT NEW
